How to use this calculator

Estimate payoff time and interest assuming no new charges. Enter amounts in the units shown, select the applicable options, and click Calculate. Use Reset to restore the starting values.

Calculation formula

Monthly interest = opening balance × APR/12; apply the selected payment rule.

Assumptions and accuracy

Review timing, rates, fees and result notes when comparing scenarios. Future returns and rates are assumptions rather than guaranteed outcomes. Monetary display follows the currency’s precision; intermediate calculations retain additional digits.

Choose what to calculate

Credit card minimum payment payoff calculator

Understanding this calculation

Estimate payoff with fixed payments, a chosen term or a minimum-payment rule. Review the payoff time and interest impact of changing the payment amount.

Worked examples

Pay down a zero-APR credit card with fixed payments

Illustrative inputs are specified in the steps below; the example link loads the complete settings. Unmentioned settings use the linked defaults.

  1. At zero APR with no fees or new purchases, twelve payments of 100 repay 1,200; interest totals zero.

Total interest: 0 USD.

Common questions

Why does paying only a percentage minimum take so long?

As the balance falls, the percentage payment can fall too, slowing principal reduction until a floor payment applies.

What if my payment does not cover interest?

The balance cannot be repaid under that fixed-payment assumption. Increase payment or review the entered APR.

Scope and assumptions

The model uses APR divided into monthly interest and assumes no new purchases or unentered fees. Actual statement daily balances and promotional terms can differ.
